Safety
Throughout the history of Mercedes Benz, they have prided themselves on the
safety features of their cars and now their sport utility vehicles. Front
and rear crumple zones help to transfer the energy of an impact away from
the passenger box and under hood items are arranged in such a manner that
when in a head on collision, the items cannot pile up to force things into
the passenger box, and with the added strength of the triple reinforced roof
pillars and roofline, the M Class provides a cage like structure in case of
a rollover accident. To keep everyone kept in place in the event of an
accident, the new M Class features adaptive dual stage air bag system with
side impact airbags, and head restraint curtain airbags are standard. All
of the airbags are chambered for comfort and are pressure controlled
depending on the speed and severity of impact. Every seat position in the
new M Class features three point restraints, which are adjustable to the
persons height, and adjustable headrests, as well as emergency tension
device which allows less than a tenth of a second of movement upon a sudden
pull to them safety belts. When combined with the braking and suspension
features mentioned in the handling section, this new M Class offers the
passengers and driver a smooth Mercedes Benz quality ride, as well as one of
the safest rides in the class, as well as the world.
