Interior
While the new M Class offers lots of performance in both models, the
engineers have kept interior luxury one of the top concerns when working out
the finer details of the new M Class. Dual zone climate control is standard
both models which features automatic blower control and air distribution,
and for the rear passengers climate controls are included within reach
although for those with young kids in the back, there is also a switch to
control the rear climate control from the front; and to help ease the ride
for those with allergy issues, the new M Class comes standard with an
electrostatic dust and pollen filter built into the climate control system.
The windows and door locks are all power features, and with the push of one
button all of the windows and the sunroof of the new M Class can be rolled
up or down, a feature which Mercedes Benz has dubbed "tunnel mode". The
steering wheel, while offering the shifter only a finger tips reach away,
also houses the audio controls as well as the phone controls, and the
steering column offers tilt and telescoping control to ensure comfort for
drivers of all shapes and sizes. To ensure comfort and storage for anything
you may want to keep close for long rides, the front seatbacks include
magazine nets, and along the bottom of the doors small storage bins will
serve nicely to stow away any small knick knacks for the kids. The front
center arm rest has safety handles built into it, and down between them are
to very large cup holders to save time on having to stop for more drinks
along the way, and the rear console, which folds away, also features two cup
holders. The front seats which come in leather or cloth, offer eight way
adjustment, with a heated seat option standard in the ML500. The rear seats
of both M Class models offer a sixty forty split for added cargo room
without giving up complete rear passenger capacity. Depending on the model,
the steering wheel can come in either vinyl or leather, but the steering
wheels controls are standard regardless of the model chosen. The Mercedes
Benz modular COMMAND cockpit management and data system allows for one
convenient location for the stereo, weather band radio, a compact disc
player, a large liquid crystal display screen, and controls of the glove box
mounted six compact disc player, navigation system, and integrated
telephone. This immaculate entertainment center sends its signals through
precision fiber optic wires to the eight speaker sound system. The interior
is well light by this gleaming audio video system, but the surrounding
interior trim is no slouch. Brushed aluminum accents throughout the vehicle
ensure that the driver has the constant feeling that he or she is in none
other than a Mercedes Benz.
