The normal range is 22-28mpg depending on the type of driving (city/highway) and how hard you drive it. I average 26mpg but have gotten as high as 29.5mpg on highway trips, although my vehicle is definitely not stock since it has several modifications that alter fuel economy.

Anyone that claims to average more than 30mpg in a 300D/CD/TD/SD (especially on eBay and craigslist) either has math errors or is a liar.

I have a 1991 300D.  I do mostly highway.  I get from 30.5 mpg (driving 75-80 mph) to 33.5 mpg (driving 55-60 mph).  It has been that way for the 220,000 miles I have driven it (it currently has about 350k).  Very consistent on mpg --- I almost always get 31.5 --- I am typically driving about 65-70 mph. By the way this is in hilly, mountainous areas.

I had a 1992 300D and used to drive it from Tulsa to Houston and back again once a week. This is 1000 miles roundtrip and is Interstate about 90% of the way. At a constant 70 mph I would normally get 33 to 36 mpg.

I have a 93 300D and get around 26 city and 29 highway. I have done everything I can think off to increase fuel efficiency and I don''t know why my milage is so much lower than most listers suggest. I am very frustrated. I have checked tire air presures (constantly), changed all filters, installed a new tranny (very nice) replaced leaking intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, checked vacume and operation of turbo boost, waxed by car, driven at 60 mph. Prayed to all dieties I can think off, plus a few more. Any suggestions?
