Hi there:

Just bought a 2001 E320 Wagon over ebay (yes yikes!)

Car has 80K miles and according to the ebay seller the check engine light is on.

Car was sold by a charity. I just put in a low price not expecting to get it but somehow I got it and now I am worried.

So this like putting cart before the horse but what issues are there with the E class for this model year.

Timing belt change. I understand it has a timing chain so no problems with it breaking.
It has a check engine light and I know many things can trigger such an event but for a 2001 E320 with 80K miles what would be likely causes
How's the relaiblity of the engine and tranny. I have owned Volvos (currently 1991 940 Turbo Wagon with 140K miles) and they are very very reliable.
What are the things to look for.

Sorry for asking so many questions but I am kind of worried.

I wouldn't worry too much. The car is very solid and reliable. I worked for about 2 years as a technician at a Mercedes dealership.
The check engine light is hard to say, but I'd say the most common things could be an Air Mass Sensor or an Oxygen Sensor. Could also be time for ignition cables. Just get it diagnosed at a reputable independant shop that knows Benz.
