I need some expert help. I have a 2005 S600 and just went to replace the OEM Michelin Pilots. I decided to switch to Goodyear F-1's and car rode horrible, fortunately they had the 30 day free test drive. I went back to Michelins and put Pilot All Seasons on and and the car still does not ride as smooth as when the OEM's were on it. Mercedes says Michelin does not recommend All Season for the big S class. Michelins website recommends them though.

Obviously I should have just replaced them with the same tires but too late now. I am now thinking of putting 20 inch wheels and tires on. Can anybody give any input, recommendations, will it mess up my smooth ride that I used to have? Any and all input would be great. Thanks.

In a word YES.
you go from a decent size sidewall to almost no sidewall, you lose A LOT of ride comfort in reducing the sidewalls. On my C320 I had a beautiful smooth ride with the stock 16" wheels, I bought 19" Brabus wheels and you can DEFINATELY tell a difference. It still rides ok, but not like it did. It rides like a sports car instead of a luxury car.

It wont be as bad as you might think.  the s-class ride is much better than the c and adding 20" wheels will make it ride a little harsher but not bad at all.  Ive put 22" wheels on the s550 and only lost a little ride.  It rides much better still than most cars stock.
