Won't start!! - 2/16/2008 6:35:41 AM    treadstone71   Posts: 43 Joined: 1/31/2008 Status: offline I haven't had a chance to drive my 190 D in a while.  This morning when I went to start it, it was almost dead.  I gave it a few trys but nothing.  I then tried to jump it but the jump didn't do anything.  Before I go out and buy a new battery I thought I should just ask if there is something I'm missing.  I will check the battery of course (with a voltmeter) to see if its still good.  I just thought it odd that the jump didn't give it any juice. RE: Won't start!! - 2/16/2008 11:18:16 AM    treadstone71   Posts: 43 Joined: 1/31/2008 Status: offline I was able to start her up but couldn't restart a few hours later.  If it is my alternator how expensive is a new one.  I know for my ford its dirt cheap.  Something tells me for a MB its going to be a lot. RE: Won't start!! - 2/17/2008 1:52:53 PM    Flatblak   Posts: 9 Joined: 1/3/2008 Status: offline    If you haven't, I would get the car started again with a jump- and while its running take your voltmeter and check the voltage across the battery terminals, it should read over 12 volts, my 300sd read ~14.1v, I believe if you are seeing this that means the alternator is working fine.        If you charge the battery and it wont stay charged, then my experience is you need a new one.  This whole ordeal just happened to me with my car and the new battery fixed it (in reply to treadstone71) Post #: 7

RE: Won't start!! - 2/18/2008 3:34:18 PM    treadstone71   Posts: 43 Joined: 1/31/2008 Status: offline I've had vaccum issues and the car will not turn off with the key.  Several times I turned off the ignition and the car was still running.  Thought that might burn out my alternator.  Haven't had a chance to check yet.
