I have been in the middle of contemplating a few things,
How do i get better power,
which swap would be the most recommended,

i could step up to the 617,
and if i were to do that, would my 4spd man. bolt up.
also what is the highest horsepower levels and torque known?
any goals,
fuel economy is not a worry, im looking more for the power aspect,

or hypethetically speaking, if
i were to go through and drop a small block ford or chevy,
possibly AMG, what and where would you recommend???

Wanting better power aspects,

You can find one in your local auto trader, eBay, newspaper, craigslist and many other places. Value of a 240D is anywhere between $600-4500 depending on year, condition, miles, documentation and rust. We would need to have more info on your car to give a narrower range.

1982

mileage is unknown, approx. 365k. ive had the car for over 2 years and have made multiple trips to Ft. Knox, Ft. Sill, Ft. Gordon, and Ft. Bragg. The odometer stopped working about 2 months after i got it.

absolutely no documentation, im an ASE mechanic, i do all my own work.

car has minor rust on the rear quarter panels, minor rust on the floor panels, but all the same, i am also a certified bodyman/painter.

ive sort of been in the trade everywhere, im a car guy.

I'd probably say the $800-1200 range depending on who you talk to and how good of a salesman you are.

what about an '82 300SD front clip? will the transmissions bolt up? and also, is there alot of work involved, as opposed to a gas v8?

Yes, the engine will bolt in after you change the engine mount arms to those from a 300D. The engine is otherwise the same. The transmission will sit 4" back so the driveshaft will have to be shortened.
