Okay--

I trashed the radiator on my '81 240D..  Long story short, an old guy in a Chebby pickup decided to stop in the middle of an intersection, on a green light-- for reasons only he will likely ever understand..

I patched the leak with JB Weld (the putty stuff) and surprisingly made it home, after I let it sit an hour..  But there are other leaks, and-- well, I don't really want to trust my "field engineering" to last forever..  The fan bolt punched a hole about the size of my little finger RIGHT DAB in the middle of it--  There's another unvisualized pinsized leak, that opens only when the radiator is hot..  It makes a drip leak..  Great if you want to kill the neighbors cat.. (kidding!)

Sigh--

To the point..

What will fit in my '81 240D??  My guess would be any NA 123..  My buddy has a turbodiesel 123, and it uses the same "radiator cap on reservior" setup my '83 300SD uses..

My radiator has the cap ON it-- if you've seen both, you know what I'm saying..

Obviously any 240D will work..  Realistically the non-turbo 300D's used the same one..

BUT

What about the gassers??  I'm not sure, I've honestly never looked under the hood of one..

Can someone give me a "meaningful" interchange of what all radiators will fit??

Thanks in advance..  I know I don't have one in the local (Toledo) yards-- I'm hoping someone can direct me to one..

BTW-- The 240D is a TOTAL RUSTBUCKET-- so I don't see "new" as a viable option..  I'm driving it, till something breaks I don't want to fix, and parting the booger out..   It has a great interior, and the little 4 still makes decent compression and starts easily...  I'm thinking I'll let my girlfriends 18 year old destroy that, so he'll leave his mom's Explorer alone..  :)

Anyway--

It's an 81 240D automatic..  It looks like the tranny cooler is part of the radiator-- so it may be different than the M/T model..

I'm willing to buy, if you have one that will work-- Shoot me an email-- my zipcode for shipping is 43551..

Just get one for a 240D. If you have a manual, you can use one from an auto or manual. If you have an auto, it must be from an automatic.

...I was looking for interchange, as I haven't found any locally, and will have to be at the mercy of some parts jockey that I haven't met..

...I also have a friend traveling who hits "the yards" for me, and wanted him to have some idea of any options available.   240D's (at least locally) are VERY scarce..  300Dt's and SD's are much more common..

Hoping a "bump" will find someone with a "hollander..."

I wish I could find one, online...  :(
