Hi everyone. Glad to join this forum.

Since I was young I have always dreamt of owning 2003 up 500SL and now I have an opportunity financially to go look for one.

I stand about 6'5" and weigh about 260lbs. I realize it’s a sports car and fit will be a bit tight, but I want to know if driving a 500SL is possible? Or completely out of the question?

If you know of any related articles, or temporary modifications without ruining the vehicle, please let me know? Or better yet pictures of a tall guy, or if you are a tall guy, have pictures in one? That would be great.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks so much. A all the best in the New Year.

I am 6'3 " and 245, and I fit fine.  What year SL?  The 2002s onward look a tad smaller.

what year SL? if its 2002 or older, yes too small.   Im 6'2" and the seat doesnt go back far enough for me and it is tough to get out of the seat. the newer SL's 2003 and newer are much better.

sat in a 2004 today, i was tight and uncomfortable.. the only thoughts i had was seat relocation since i have seen numerous sports figures with these vehicles. i stand 6'5" wiegh 265 lbs.

.. does anyone know where this work can be done? or links to somewhere i could buy a reloction bracket? or anything that could assist?

thank you very much. look forward to hearing.

you must drive the car.  That will say it all.  if your problem is love handles, well that can be taken care of with a bit of will power.  If u are too tall get one with a sunroof, but with the top in the trunk that becomes no issue.  they sure are sweet looking.  Drive it if u haven't.   I can only speak from experience with a 90 300sl and I still just look for a chance to take her for a spin.  I like the 230 too.  I like being spoilt, but right now my better and smarter half would hang me out to dry.  long and nice story, but I would basically have to give up something, like the 300 .  YOU only go around once and if you are really, really nice maybe the Good Lord would see fit to let you take your car with you when you go to that SL heaven in the sky. Drive one!

Ghost,

I am 6'4" / 215 and although you don't have the room of driving an S class (or even an E class) I fit into my 230 quite well.  A couple suggestions if you have not already taken into consideration. First, as far a height is concerned did you sit in a car with or without a pano roof?  If it had the pano roof try one without.  I believe you lose a couple inches of headroom with cars equipped with it.  Second, although I am not certain what if any seat options are available for the 230's you might want to look into that.  I own a 600 which come basically with every bell and whistle.  My seats have so many adjustments it is almost ridiculous. However once dialed in I fit like a glove. On that note you have to remember what you are buying.  This car is a roadster.  I am 35 years old but climbing in and out of this car is not exactly "comfortable" but to reiterate what the previous poster Brookings said, "You must drive the car".  Once you do so you will understand.  The cars are just awesome.  Good luck.

Well it depends how comfortable you want to be
I’m 7’ and about 380 and do fit in my SL600
There is not a lot of room.
I have removed the back cushion from the seat to get more room
This works fine I have driven 1000 of miles this way
But I’m looking into finding a seat with slimmer back
To get more room. Some say sell the car..NO WAY that ever happen
Maybe a newer model. Finding cars when you are 7’ is a challenge
I,m looking at a 2002 S500 and there is lots of room.
