Found an '88 200D with a 5 speed transmission? I haven't heard of year/model before. Its listed on a regional online classified network. Any ideas of what this could be and if it would be worth looking at?

W124 chassis, 2.0L 4-cylinder non-turbo OM601, about 72hp.

If it is in the USA it is a gray market import.

Is there a turbo straight 6 that will be able to swap with the I4?

The 1987 300D is the same car with a different engine and an automatic.

The 200 is a unique car and I think you are lucky to find one here in the US.  Why in the world would you want to swap the engine?  If you want a W124 300 get US spec car and save yourself the work.  Plus, you'll leave the 200 for someone who would appreciate the opportunity to have the I4 with the 5 speed.

I do not have much knowledge of auto to manual swaps, so if I can save myself the trouble, by already having a manual, I just need to worry about the engine. But I definantly see where you are coming from, that the I4 manual shouldn't be tampered with...

If you want a turbo engine with a manual find an 86, 88-89 190D 2.5 and swap in a turbo engine from a 1987 190D 2.5T.
