I just installed a 3198 cd changer in my 2001 E320 4Matic. The radio doesn't recognize the cd changer. I read somewheres you have to disconnect the battery for 15 seconds to have the radio recognize the changer.I just bought my car and I heard the battery is under the backseat. I would like to know the easiest way to get to the battery and disconnect it or if you have any tricks.Thank-You.

There is a little flap on the pass side foot well by the rear seat.Open it up and it gives you access
to the neg terminal of the battery. After you do the reset you will need to resync your windows ,steering and sun roof. It's all in the manual. You have an owners manual?

make sure the key is out whenever you unhook and rehook the battery,to completely reset all systems ,step on the brake pedal for 30 seconds while the battery is disconnected, then hook up the neg lead again.

Do you think after doing this the radio should recognize the cd changer,or is there something else that should be done. Thank-You.

i think the least disruptive method would be to try (first) sliding the radio out and pulling the
fuse from the back of the radio.  if 15 seconds doesn't work, then increase the time.  heck,
leave it out overnight if you need.  more often than not, this 'reboot' seems to do the trick.

BE SURE you have the radio code handy as you will need to reboot the radio as well.

If the changer is still not recognized, 1) changer isn't operational, 2) the car may have on-
board cellular phone in the optical loop, 3) may need to have dealer hook up the SDS laptop
to version code things.   FYI, I've worked on approx 5 E320s and added changers and none
have required anything more than power disruption and reboot.  I've never had to take the
cars in to the dealer.

I just tried installing the changer and hooked up the optical first  and the other plug after.
Now the radio says No Magazine.
I cannot eject the magazine also.
Should I still unplug the battery or is there a fuse somewhere just for the radio or changer.
Thank-You.

Check this out it says the head unit has to be programmed to see the changer if not it won't recognize the changer. Can anyone confirm this.
Thanks.

If your C230 has never had the CD changer installed in it. Then you will find the connections on the same side as were the trunk pocket is located on the right. You then need to removed the panel to expose the orange fiber optic wire as well as the power cables. It will take some patience, be sure to be careful when removing you do not want to damage panel. And if you have not done so be sure to have your car programed to recognize the changer. I hope this helps.
I found this info in another forum. Do you think it has to be programmed to recognize the changer?
Thank-You.

I would like to know if you need a special tool to take the radio out.
Thank-You.
