Greetings:

I have a (classic) well-cared for M/B; model referenced above. Presently, the hood insulation has detached from the interior of the hood; approximately three-fourths of the insulation hangs down when hood is in upright position. I have been advised to a) remove the insulation completely; do not replace item, b) use clear silicon caulk to re-attach the insulation, and c) ignore the situation. I want to re-attach the insulation to the hood. This car is a beauty and I have complete respect for the machine. I want to maintain the integrity of the automobile as best I can. The insulation appears to be in good condition. Please advise as to the process and materials you consider the best to repair the hood insulation to resemble (at best) its original condition.

Your time and commitment to M/B auto owners is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Susan

do not remove it.

not only that it protects the paint from high temperature, but also reduce the noise and vibration.

it doesn't look good without the insulator also, and reduce the value.

The advise of Sleep walker is sound and logical. What you can do is to clean the area where the insulation is and try to remove all the deteriorating insulation foam under the hood. Buy a tube or so of liquid nail. Apply the liquid nail on the bare under hood and leave it until tacky , then attach the insulation, apply presure and I guess thats about it.

Had the same problem. Used 3M spray adhesive (same as what car audio professional installers use). This should fix it.
