My 81 123 300d came standard with no turbo. What would the implications be to fit one. Obviously power gain etc... but getting the manifold etc, any advice appreciated.

Significantly shortened engine life and NO power gain. A turbo cannot be added, the engine can't handle the added thermal and pressure stresses.

If you want a turbo, buy a turbo engine and swap engines.
