My guess is that you may mean that the valves were out of sync and hit the crown of the pistons. If this is the case it pushes the valve up into the cam shaft and causes a lot of damage. I also think there are a lot of $4000, $5000 cars out there that have good engines. You could buy a car with a good engine and swap. Also, there are non-SLs that are cheaper. A used engine in a used car is likely much cheaper and .... why not. Or, buy another car - The cars are cheap now Just my though on the topic
