I have an 87 with 83K miles on her. I removed the rubber trim that is used to seal the soft top cover. (when i bought the car it had the hardtop on it and I hope i never have to put that damn thing back on as long as i own this car..LOL) and didn't see the soft top or the deck seal. So anyway it was pretty well shot so i pulled it out (actually, cut it out would be more accurate cause it had the 20 YR old glue) and i bought a new seal from an aftermarket outfit. I can't figure out for the life of me how to get the new one to fit. If i lay it out like it looks like it should go (so that it fits in the rear) the ends that are supposed to fit under the chrome piece that the seat belt harness comes out of are about 90 degrees off. If i turn it so that the ends fit under the chrome piece, then the majority of the weatherstrip doesnt' fit properly (sits too low) and it is facing the wrong direction at the back where it has to clear the top pin (rearmost). I wonder if this seal was moulded incorectly or am I just invisioning it wrong. I hate to take it to a body shop and have them spend a few minutes figuring it out and charge me $100 or so. Has anybody out there replaced this piece and knows how it is supposed to fit, before i go crazy????
