One of the foster kids managed to break the wood surround on the passenger side vent. From what I could see on the piece at the junkyard (unfortunately in worse shape than mine) it looks like the whole glove box assembly and the surround for the vent is all one piece. Am I missing something? Any advice pictures, leads on the part, etc. is greatly appreciated

Hey Bob...if this isn't to late to help...it is very easy to remove the right side vent wood surround...just takes a bit of time. The easiest way to remove and replace is to first remove the venition vent insert by grabbing hold of the crossbar that runs the length of the vent and with a flat blade screw driver pry the spring clips on each side of the vent one at a time while pulling on the cross bar with your hand. It will pop right out. you will also have to remove the glove box liner by taking a flat blade srew driver and removing each plastic plug that you will find on the upper and lower portions of the liner. can't miss 'em if you just look for the only plastic plugs there. each one is 2 pieces..an insert and a collar that the insert fits into. pop out the insert first then the collars. You will find 4 or five along the bottom and 4 on top. then pry down on the glove box light and let it dangle there inside the glove box. Grasp the top of the glove box liner in the center either with your fingers or pliers and first pull down then out on the liner. once it clears the top latch, do the same with the lower edge of the liner. Pull the liner out about 3 inches, then slip the glove box light through its mounting hole and completely remove the liner. You are now ready to remove the wood surround. You will need a 7 mm socket and either a 6 inch extension or a screwdriver handle type socket wrench. There are 2 plastic 7 mm nuts to remove. The easiest is inside the ac vent on the right side. You will see a hole in the plastic inner liner that you need to fit your socket over. Just stick it firmly in the hole in the plastic and gently turn till the socket locks onto the platic nut. I use a small extension or adapter to get a decent grip with my fingers and just keep turning it counter clokwise till the nut comes off. It should stay inside the socket when all the way loosened. Now you need to remove the second plastic 7mm nut which is between the glove box open space and the left side plastic liner in the vent. it is near the top. If you look at the slim vertical wood strp that goes between the vent opening and the glove box opening, the nut is on the backside of this strip about one inch from the top. Take your hand and go through the glove box opening and feel for it. Take your 7mm socket with 6 inch extension and place it over the nut firmly and loosen. It takes about 10 turns of the socket but make sure the nut stays in the socket and do not let it drop down or you will have to take the lower kick panel off to find it. Once both nuts are removed, slide the vertical wood surround piece towards you and free th stud from the hole. Next just pivot the piece towards the open door till it is free.
You will see how to replace it as soon as the wood piece is in your hand.
To make it really easy to see where the studs and nuts are located it is much easier by having the replacement part in hand to look at it first before removing the damaged piece. I know this seems drawn out but it should only take about 20 minutes to remove the part and 10 to 15 to reinstall everything. Don't let this scare you..it really is easy to do if you have the time.
