2002 CL600 - Oil Leak Problems

MarkKBK -> 2002 CL600 - Oil Leak Problems (3/21/2007 3:38:03 PM)

I own a 2002 CL600.  The warranty ended in November 2006.

On February 22, 2007, I noticed some oil leaks.  The dealer, with whom I have a good relationship, found that the rear main seal was leaking.  The total for labor and parts was $2,696.80.

In early March 2007,  I noticed further leaks and smoke coming out of the engine area.  The dealer said that the oil leak is coming from a cover that is between the cylinder heards.  The cover covers the oil cooler assembly, and cannot be removed until both the intake manifold and both cylinder heads are removed.  Additionally, the dealer said that there is a sign of leakage from the high pressure hydrolic line for the suspension.  The cost of removing the cylinder heads and resealing the oil cooler is $5,800, and the cost of fixing the suspension line is $2,600, for a total of $8,400!

Has anyone had or heard of similar problems on the CL class?  Any input will be extremely appreciated.

Thank you.

Ihave got the exact same problem.  Took my car in because I could smell the oil after a drive.  The car is at the dealer right now having the heads taken off and to see where the oil is leaking from.

Just thought I would mention that while I am still waiting for my CL 600 to be fixed, I have in the meantime purchased an Aston Martin Vantage.  Great car.

Mercedes CL 600's must of had poor gasket materials. I had a $6000 bill for shorting out my left firing bank. My extended warranty paid for $5000. I paid $1000 for new spark plugs and some minor stuff. THEN, i see  a puff of smoke and they say gas leaked into the O2 Sensor and some other stuff, another $7000 bill , warranty pays for another $5000 and I need to pay $2000 for a poor hose connection thats leaking; you have to take the engine out to get to it !! Selling this car ASAP. Oh yes, The rear strut is leaking but not bad, thats a $2000 bill when it goes.

My little Clk 430,,,no problems,,,,you can keep your fancy $125 K car....that depreciates quicker than the US Dollar.
