Just purchased a 1984190d with auto tranny... when in D it will go to 1st gear and then slip to nothing, no go... if i manually put it in 2 it will shift to 2nd gear.... if I put into 3 back to nothing.... back to D is back to 1st gear... the car has less then 200k and seems to run strong in 1st and 2nd gear... just won't shift on it's own.... any suggestions... Thanks, Tom

Sounds like time to rebuild/replace the tranny.

do the basics first. check the trans fluid color and level. if the trans is slipping all the time it my be due to low fluid level. also look underneath for and major fluid leaks.it that all checks out ok find a good transmission shop or another similar 190 with a working trans.

Guessing it could be a vaccum problem also preventing gear shifting, but would assume a low tranny fluid level.

How much do you think a tranny rebuild would cost?  Also, how feasible/difficult/cost of converting the 4spd auto to a manual tranny?

Probably about 2 grand or less. Conversion isn't that difficult, search 190revolution.net for the best answer
