I recently bought a '91 500SL.  The soft top worked but yesterday would not good down.  The storage lid opened and that is as far as the process went.  Someone told me I could unplug the computer and replug it and that might fix the problem.  However, I don't know where to find it although someone told me it was under the passenger seat under the carpet?  Does anyone have any knowledge of this problem and fix?  Thanks, I am a new user.

you might also want to try raising/lowering it manully. that's what i did and it has worked since.

Could you advise as to whether you resolved problem and cost?

check the hydraulic oil level. maybe it's low. it's inside the trunk on the middle area together with the motor and pump.

quantity when full is 0.42 liter.
use only ZH-M. the same oil use in level control system, hydropneumatic suspension, ASD, and 4matic.

Follow-up on resetting the Top Computer... Finally got it into the shop. Resetting (rebooting) the computer was not done by either removing the battery form the circuit nor
uplugging the computer (tried both unsuccesfully). The shop hooked a test set to the computer and reset it.

$45 later everything works fine.
