I have an engine light on and have code P0170 and P173 indicated. When I reset the light, I can drive 5-6 miles before it comes on again. I am getting ready to order a new MAS but before I do I thought I would check to see if anybody has any other ideas. Please assume that I haven't the foggiest idea what might cause the above codes. Thanks.

It is a failure issue or just a dirt issue? I have the exact same code. I cleaned the MAS but I do not know what else I should do before trying to reset.

I just posted in General Tech my experiences. I am 99% sure you have an MAF problem - these are the codes i had - and this seems like THE most common issue with this engine based on a few hours of research. I think the part is cleanable sometimes - but I think it needs a good soak. Sometimes you can get them off of ebay - I am not sure of the quality, but they seem to come from Alabama, probably fell of the Mercedes plant truck there. I am 99% sure that once you put the new part in it will turn off the CEL within a day or two, once the part renormalizes the computer and come up with no fault a few times....

check for vacuum leaks first repair them first then if there are no leaks replace the mass and air filter, and reset your adaptation

I have a 2000 Ml-320 with 39,000miles and as of last month i am getting the P0173 code. Here's what i tried doing.

Cleaned MAF with compressed air, no change still get P0173 (yes i cleared the code after prior to cleaning)

Changed MAF, checked plugs, still get P0173.

What else is there for me to do?

When driving acceleration feels very slugish at 5k rpm

Oh by the way i use octane 87 fuel for obvious reasons, could that be why i keep getting P0173?

You need to clean the maf with crc brand maf cleaner.Put in a new air filter and use premium fuel only.
