I have a 85 300D (turbocharged) Benz that does not register an engine temperature at the dash gage.  Does this signify that I have a thermostat issue or something more benign?  All help is appreciated.

Check connections, if nothing is loose, replace device (may be acquired in wrecking yard)

If you need to pull the dash cluster to check the gauge connection, here's a how-to-do-it with pictorial: http://articles.mbz.org/instrument/renew/  or

I had a similiar problem with my 617 in a 87 300TD. After weeks of pulling guages and sensors I resorted to an old farm trick and ran a heavy cooper stranded wire from engine to frame.Bingo now I have rock solid temp readings and take fewer Zantec for acid stomach worrying about my Al. head.

A million pardons I meant to say my 603 engine in a 87 300TD, which really has been a good car.
