My genius brother-in-law filled 3/4 of his tank with gas. Drove it for 20 miles, it was running fine. Then it started loosing power and stoped.
Anyone know what kink of damage might have been done?
What will the remedy be?

I would assume drain and flush the system and reset the computer.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
davidk

well, it does happen frequently.

just drain the tank, replace the fuel filter, bleed the excess diesel.

no harm will be done.

was it a CDI engine?

Well, he found the only Mercedes dealer within 100 miles of where he broke down and had it towed.
I don't know if the engine was a CDI, the reason I asked in this forum was it's a Mercedes engine.
He slept in the van waiting for the dealer to open. This was his first new vehicle and the money was hard earned.
He was almost in tears.
It turns out he was half asleep when he stopped at the BP station, grabbed the green handle and started pumping.
I told him where I live the easiest way to tell the difference between the pumps is to look for the letters "D I E S E L" on the pump.

The dealer said "a ups truck is in right now with a blown engine because they filled it with gas", this did not make him feel any better. He was told it could be as much as $10,000 to repair, but when all was said and done it only cost him $200 to drain the system and replace the filter.

Thanks for the response, it was kind of a frantic question. He's several states away but always calls us when major stuff happens.

Thanks again,
davidk
