traksta15 -> need help installing deck in 89 300sel (12/19/2006 8:38:35 PM)

my dad just bought an 89 mercedes 300sel and he's wanting to put a small system in it. I've installed many systems but only on common, everyday vehicles. My first obstacle is that I can't find a single din install kit for the cd player he's chosen. Does anyone know where I can find one? Any and all help is appreciated. If they don't make an install kit I guess i could use a LOC but only as a last resort......thanks in advance!

i have a 1988 420 sel,i dont know how much difference there is between our dashes but i had to pull out the ash tray,remove 2 phillips screws,and then i pulled the factory deck out.there is no install kit for it but the regular din size radios fit in the opening perfectly.the only problem is i had a fader in the console and if you have this then plan on running new speaker wires from the deck /or amp to every speaker location.i added many speakers to my car but it had 3.5 inch mids in the dash and 6 1/2 inch mids in the rear deck.if your car is like mine i can help with every aspect as ive added 5 amps and 12 speakers along with 3-alpine t.vs  and the works in between. hope this helps

Have you tried E-bay?

how do you actually pull the radio out. I got the ash tray removed but can't figure out what is holding the radio in?  Don't want to mess up the console by doing something stupid.  Looks like 2 pieces (1 on either side) may be holding it in but cannot figure out how they are inserted.

Any help will be greatly appreciated ( I have an 87 420 SEL)

i've got the same problem.  my 89 420sel has the stupid fader in the center console so i ripped it out and tried to use those wires to get some sound but only time it worked was when the radio was disconnected and i used a AA battery which gave me some noise!?!?!?!

anyways, is there someway to use the existing wiring or will i really have to put new wiring from front to back?  i know i have those two speakers on my dash, and two in the rear deck, but do i also have a pair in the bottom of the front doors?  this car has 6 speakers or 4?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't need to re-wire anything. You may need an adaptor for the new radio, but that's all. Only 1991-1993 MB's need any major re-wiring.

I have this same problem (1988 300 SEL) - radio quit working, purchased a new deck/CD player (had it installed at store) - sound fades in and out when radio is on - when CD player is on have sound except for vocals - installer said factory amp bad - need to rewire all speakers to bypass amp (additional cost).

My questions:  is this correct?  is there an amp and where is location?  are any problems related to a "radio code"?  this was the original radio - sticker said if removed electronics would not work?

I noted the reply that we may need an adaptor for the radio - what adaptor?  where can I get one?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I hope this works.  I''ve been going insane looking for a wiring diagram that actually has relevance!
