Hi everyone, I have a problem with my mother-in-law 's '98 C230. Well she let me take it for a spin to see if I could see what was wrong. This is what the car does. I started driving the car giving it gas here and there for about 5 miles all is well, then got onto the freeway. cruised for about 5miles and got off the freeway and came to a stop. When I gave it gas again the check engine light came on and the car started to sputter and hesitate in the lower RPM's but when it got to 2grand or so it would smooth out. till the next light it would do the samething; idle fine until you give it gas, then sputter and miss untill 2000 RPM and then go, with a loss of power throughout the whole powerband. SO I decided to pull over and shut off the car. Sat for a min started it back up. The check engine light is still on but car runs fine for the first few start/stop then starts to lose power. What could this be? Her Mechanic couldn't find anything wrong with it, thus it falls to me. The car has 100k on it but been very well maintained. I was just curious if this could be a comin bug in this model. Any help is appriciated and sorry for such a long first post!

well maintained means the fuel filter is not clogged?

was it considered to be an intermittent problem? temperature related?

check also for a blocked exhaust.

if the problem occurs during blipping the throttle on acceleration... it's air mass sensor.

I'm thinking it's heat related. I was thinking the O2 sensor, but after a little research in a few different forums I was thinking it was the mass air sensor. Thanks. Now I have to break the $250 plus news to her. I wish I new for sure that was it, but I can't think of anything else.
