Just bought a 93 SL500 and need to find a good honest mechanic in my area. Anybody got a "guy"?

Hey Doug,

I also recently purchased my first Mercedes, a 1996 SL500. The mechanic that was recommended to me is:

Rosenthal Service
4020 Fabian Way
Palo Alto, Ca 94303
(650)494-1021

I have only needed to bring my SL in once for routine maintenance, the service was great. My friend has been going there for years and loves them. The only other place that I have been hearing lots of great things about is Beshoff Motorcars dealership in San Jose.

I've quickly learned to stay away from SMYTHE. They had the car for two days to diagnose what was wrong with the top hydraulics. Came back with a quote for $2600. Upon futher (10 minute) examination, it looks like the only issue is one of the seals and can be done for next to nothing-comparitively. Once the work is done I'll send a recommendation...

Ya, that is why I didn't recommend SMYTHE. I have heard nothing but complaints about them lately. Good luck with Rosenthal.
