My point.  On a non-turbo 616 2.4L 123 chassis this solution could be a real winner, especially for someone not wanting to install the traditional plumbing for a legacy turbo.

You would still have to increase the full load fuel delivery to take advantage of the extra air. I doubt it would live long if it was running constantly and it's only needed at full power.

electric turbo chargers are not totally impractical. back when the idea of a 48 volt system was thougth to be viable Delphi had plans for an electric turbo charger for very small displacement motors.

but the products listed above are about as useful as taking those dollars and supplying them directly upstream of your intake.

i did see a video on "youtube" or a clone with a late model Chevrolet s-10 on the dyno with  NA pulls and then pulls where a leaf blower was placed so that its outlet was joined to the intake. if i remember correctly he netted about a 10 hp increase.

a little math here 3 liter engine at redline of 4350 rpm consumes a total of 13050 liters or 461 cubic feet of air per min at 0(zero) psig. any device you add must be capable of producing atleast this amount of air output for any benefit to be found.

If I'm reading the eRam information correctly the turbo unit only spins up at full throttle when the engine can take full advantage of the increased airflow.  Running the fan constantly would be pointless.

What if you used one of these electric turbo's in conjucntion with a propane injection system would this not increase your horsepower a significant amount ? Have both set up to start when throttle is over half open.

I own a 1977 240D. It seems to have some unusual headlights. The foglights are on the inside and both the headlight and foglight are covered by one large rectangular glass cover. Both of these cover are badly cracked and leaking water causing my headlights to burn out. I have looked high and low for these covers and can find them listed nowhere. Can anyone out there help?

That is completely unrelated to the current topic. You need to start a new thread for it.

Can you share more about your propane fumigation system..

I may want to do something to 'perk up' my feeble 240D.. :)

I'm also considering adding a pyrometer, so it doesn't go thermonuclear.. :)

Propane is not useful on non-turbo diesels. They do not have enough extra air available to burn the extra fuel (propane).

So---

I guess your saying my aspirations are normal-- but doomed to be dismal..  :P

Okay-- are there any good threads about turbocharging the 240D motor.. BTW-- what "model" engine is that..  I hear different engines reffered to by manufacturer numbers, but I'm still too much a 'nO0b' to know what's what..

I know my 81 240D is a 123 body..
and the 85 300SD is a 126, with I think a 617 engine???

It seems many pull both plastic tubes off of the switchover valve and connect them together, thereby by-passing the switchover. The plastic tube then essentially runs directly from the banjo nut to the ALDA. Man, you'll see a world of difference!

You were NOT kidding. I bypassed by switchover and now between 2200-3000 rpms I have a scary badass increase in power. Did a 6 hour road trip to portland and back and it runs pretty damn nice. Doesn't knock or ping or give me any indication that its truly stressing the engine, but does sorta surge the power so I hafta back off a little bit when accellerating now, but hills dont stop me. But the fact is my 87 300d turbo can do 0-60 in about 5.5-6 sec now.

Is anyone truly aware how much this stresses the engine, or if it wears out other components faster? I as least know I can set it back with a screwdriver in the dark in 3 minutes if needed.
