ORIGINAL: ato137528 Flat sound - no treble. Crackle from speakers. Some buzz. From what I've read, the amp needs to be refurbished. Never heard of scheduled maintaince for a stereo. Bose says to go to the dealer. I'd rather do without. Both Sound Repair in Coco, FL and Factory Car Stereo Repair in Longwood, FL look promising. Just trying to see if anyone here has dealt with this issue or these businesses. Hello again ato... an easy and quick way to isolate the failure would be to test another bose amplifier. If the failure still exists, than You should search the defect(s) either at the radio or at the speaker-system... To check the radio, You can remove it to plug in separate speakers just to test it. If the sound is clear, You should go on checking the car´s speaker-system. Are You able to deal with a multimeter ? Would You be able to remove the speakers for mesuring them? First I would check the sound by turning the fader to "front", then vary the settings for "treble" : If there´s just a little change in "treble" and the rest of sound stays flat, then the tweeter could be defective... If there´s also aditionally the crackle from the door speakers, then they could also be damaged... Maybe in the past You turned the loudness extremely high (for a longer time)? Did the failure happen suddenly? If You want to check the door´s loudspeaker group by yourself and remove them, You need to remove the door´s carpeting at first. Then You can loosen the screws and take out the speaker group ... If the tweeter is completely damaged, You will mesure an infinitely resistance at the two connector pins. Otherwise You should mesure a resistance 2 to 8 Ohm Another easy way to check the car speaker system is to use a frequency generator. At the MB-workshop they plug in the generator at the amplifier´s central plug. Then You can access every speaker group in the car... Let me know, if You need further help... I´m sorry for not beeing able to give You an advice from here, where You could service Your SL sound system... best regards Peter
