Hi,
I have 1999 c230 Kompressor.Check Engine light is on and took it to MB dealer and they read the code and said air inflow sensor is bad and charged 150 for reading code and said costs 600 for replacing it,but was on back order. So they reset the counter and light was gone.It appears after few days again and its on and off since then.Today I took it to Autozone and they read the code for free and said Oxygen sensor gone nad it costs $136.I called local auto shop and they said they wud do for $200.Is this the same as what MB dealer said and 600 to 200,price diff?Just wanted the opinion of the experienced members.I have been driving like this for last 4 months. Is this Ok or am I screwing up spmething.I am planning to get it done in few days. Can the local auto shop guys cheat me by putting a cheap OS or only certain OS fit the c230.
Please advice.
Thanks in advance

I think I'm having the same problem with my 2002, however, I'm letting the dealer do the work since it's still covered under warranty. What I would do in your case is find out if you can order the part from your Mercedes Dealer's parts dept. and then take it to a reputable shop/mechanic that works on Mercedes, Porsche, and BMW or other German/European cars, and have them do the work.

I have the same problem too with my 1994 C280. I tried disconnecting the battery (as I 've read about it from this forum). It worked for couple days and it's back on. I think it has something to do with the air sensor. Since it does not affect the engine at all, I think I'll be delaying the actual repair. I just got my smog anyway and it passed.
