hello all, i have a Merc CL 600 2001 model, i live in london uk! (england) bought the car new. lovely car, only got 6k miles on the clock, not really used got other cars, driver ect... only problem is the battery dies due to lack of use, and theres some problem with the back boot not opening but anyway. i got the car without the knowlwdge that mercedes were going to release a new version the 02 car with a bi-turbo engine! now, this might be talked about before, but this seriously damages re-sale prices! has there been any information from mercedes on this, i know they didnt need to release any statement or anything, but did this not seem a bit unfair to you CL owners? especially when the price remained the same. i mean the jump was from 367bhp to just about 500bhp. i mean if there was a considerable price increase ok! but 1 year after the Cl was released the brought the cl with extra bhp at the same price. has anyone had any corespondence with merc on this subject matter? any input would be greatful, Niko

do you know the difference between the two models yes. it's the same question as standard and AMG version. i know that AMG modifies them and i don't think the price is the same. they attach 1 turbo charger on each side of intake manifold plus a bunch of hoses. but they would call it CL65 and not CL600 anymore.

Are you saying M-B shouldn't improve or make advancements in their current models because they sold previous versions and it might offend those owners to do so? A car maker never guarantees, implicitly or explicitly, that they won't improve a model when they sell it. On the contrary, you should expect it from not only M-B but all other car makers as well. They don't guarantee re-sale value either. The market regulates that. Announcing upcoming changes has marketing ramifications for sure. Timing is critical. Why would M-B or any other manufacturer, car manufactuers or whatever, announce a change that would kill current sales? A lot of people think M-B cares about them and would never do such a dastardly thing. They couldn't care less about you. They want your money to cover their expenditures and have some left over for profit... period. You didn't you buy this car as an investment, did you? Have you even checked re-sale values?

I think he is asking why they did it after only one year. Whick IMO is kinda out of touch with what Mercedes does/did do look at how long the r107 72-89 and the r129 90-02 true they did not change the body style so i guess i dont have much ground to stand on for this one.

A lot of people think M-B cares about them and would never do such a dastardly thing. FORD just found out that their new FUSION model did poorly in side impact crash tests. They announced that next years model will have side curtain air bags as standard equipment. Doesn't that kill this years sales potential?

I don't know. I doubt it, but I don't know. Need more data. What factors led to the announcement? Were sales already dead? How important is it to people to have side-impact airbags? Will people be willing to pay extra for the side-impact airbags next year? My comment regarding M-B asks if M-B would make the announcement knowing that the announcement would kill current sales. If you think they would, please epxlain. I can't say the Ford announcement definitely would kill current sales. Indeed, I have no idea what's behind their announcement, but I am sure a very calculated corporate decision is behind it, and it doesn't involve making people love Ford.

I think you are the only one that actually understood what i was saying! nothing to do with that crash post! imporvements in saftey are different from simpl BHP increase. the two are not related! im saying in simple terms is that after 1 year M-B increased the BHP making one model LESS sought after than the 02 plate. such a thing would have been justifiable had it happen say 3 or 5 years down the line, or had there been cosmetic changes. such an BHP increase has not happen by another car maker, without the majority of the car be changed too. it seems unfair for a customer to pay about £90,000 sterling for a car and the year later the same model has close to 500 bhp compares to 367! niko
