No, the 3.5L engine is junk. Avoid the 1991-1995 S-class Diesels unless they have an MB-rebuilt engine or have been replaced with a 3.0L engine.
The problem is NOT to do with oil pickup. The actual cause of the rod-bending problem is unknown, only Mercedes knows what the real cause is and they aren't telling anyone or even acknowledging that there ever was a problem.
