They probably are. Why not? They seem to be doing the job I am asking for in this discussion.

Thank you! I'll let you know what I find when I get a look at them.

My info might be outdated. Don't shoot without warning. My car had a Bose system. It's a '95. I went around last year first looking for a magazine for the CD changer. I couldn't find one, even though everyone and his brother said they're Alpine clones and available all over the place. No dice. The only place is the M-B dealer for close to $50. Then I decided to do sort of what you're planning to do. In every sound shop I went to, whenever I mentioned Bose, they'd pull a face and tell me they couldn't help me. For my car, the Bose system is proprietary from front to back. No exceptions, no discussions. Gut the whole thing or leave the whole thing. There are gizmos for sale that supposedly integrate non-Bose components into a Bose system, but no sound shop would install them because they said I would come back complaining and they had enough of that crap from other customers. Well, not exactly in those words, but that's what they meant. I replaced everything in mine with an Alpine HU and amp, JL Audio speakers, and a custom-made sub box. Things may have changed since '95... and, maybe not. Good luck.

I have all the goodies to install a full custom system, including a couple of MTX sub woofers. All I really need is a power adapter for the head unit, a head unit installation adapter, an antenna connection kit (if required) and to pull out the interior and route all the proper wiring, install speakers in doors, etc. The SLK has a folding roof system which greatly restricts room in the trunk area, so no sub box is doable. I can mount the amp in the trunk and run wires as necessary. It would be nice if I could could use the existing subs to avoid fabricating something. If I can't, all the work to install my system is a waste of time, $ and effort. I plan on abandoning the disk changer in the trunk since my head unit is also a player.
