Not to be outdone by BMW, Mercedes-Benz is introducing its own "Night View Assist" system, to help drivers better prepare for nighttime hazards.

The vehicles in the 2007 S-Class series will have this innovative system that increases nighttime visibility by up to 125 percent. The system operates by an infrared light continually scanning the road ahead and transmitting the results to an 8-inch console LCD in the drivers line of sight.

The result? Safer night driving, better preparedness for encounters with people, animals, boxes that have fallen off trucks, and other obstacles that are the bane of drivers everywhere.

So, now we'll be able to see what we're running over... if we buy a new S-class.
