"How To" Replace O2 Sensors (1999 C280)

phidelt0135 -> "How To" Replace O2 Sensors (1999 C280) (2/2/2006 3:57:52 PM)

I'm hoping the experts in here can help me to replace a bad O2 sensor. From my OBD scan, I can see that it errors at P0130 (02 Sensor malfunction / Bank 1, Sensor 1) and P0135 (O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 1)

1) If I am sitting down face forward in my driver's seat, which of the four O2 sensors is considered Bank 1, Sensor 1?

2) Does anyone have detailed (preferably pictures) instructions on how to replace it?

Any help is appreciated.

According to my manual, PO130 indicates a bad O2Sensor G3/4 (bank 1 sensor 1) which is upstream of the TWC

The below pic shows where the G3/4 sensor lead plugs in under the car. (notated by G3/4x1)

I don't have a step-by-step, but depending on how tight the space is, you may need a special O2sensor wrench/socket. It is not a complicated repair.
If you buy a Bosch replacement, it will come with hot lubricating past on the threads, otherwise you'll have to supply it. note: it is not simply anti-sieze compound.
You'll want to snug it to 55 NM.

I have the same code error (P0130) but I have a 1999 C-230. Is there a big difference in locating the right senosr?

I just got the P0130 code and I decided to clean the MAF first.  After that, car runs better than before.  Did you replace the O2 sensor to get rid of P01030?  Would you please let me know?

Thanks!
David
