Anybody know what the warranty is for the catalytic converter on a 1999 ML 320.  Ours just died and the dealer quoted $3,000. Are the cats supposted to be warranted to 70,000 miles?

I suggest you to get a Factory Mercedes Manual.

It has all service and maintenance instructions, step by step.

A great help, hope this will help you.

Here's the link:

If the cats aren't covered under warranty, we have them for $395 each.

Before assuming that it is the cats, make sure you spark plugs and wire are good.
Other than that, mercedes covers up to 80,000 miles on Cats. If your is less that that, you are lucky, they will fix it for free even if you warranty already run out on the car.
Thanks

My went at 107,000 miles and that was 2,000 ago. In Oct I asked the same question and the response was for the 1998 the warranty was for 80,000 or 8 years. Just go to your warranty booklet and it will be on the inside of the front cover. My driver side went. I brought a new one on the internet for $400 and replace it my self. It took me about 4 hours to do. The only ticking thing was removing the torsion rod but if are handy around cars it should be a big thing.

Go figure. Mine were replaced for free this month. ( December 2006).
I own a 1999 ML320 with 120,000 miles. It cost -0-. I asked " what would this cost without the recall?"  The service guy saad about $3,000.

I would have done what you did for sure without the recall. Good for you.

They did charge me $80 for rerouting a vacuum line. I never asked that they do that. I paid them but think I was ripped. After all the Dealership made money on the cat replacement from Mercedes.
It still runs rough.

Keep on truckin'
