Hi,

Can someone please tell me if my 94 C280 has only one water pump for windshield washer or two (one on each side)? The nozzle on the passenger side is more like weeping rather than projecting a strong jet of washer when I press on the control.

Can it just be the nozzle getting stuck or a sign of pump failure?

Much appreciate it.

KC

My '94 C180 has only one pump, and I'd guess your C280 is the same. More than likely that some polish or other deposit has got onto the holes of the jets on one side. I usually strip a small piece of automotive wire and separate one of the copper strands which is then thin enough to poke down the hole and clean it out. Be careful not to swivel the jet, otherwise you'll have water go over the roof etc. Sometimes helps to have someone else press the washer switch while you adjust and clean the jets.

Cheers.

Thanks Rob. Will give that a try. Kind of hard to find a thin enough wire! By the way, I didn't know the nozzle can be moved. The strangest part is, if I press for washer once, the jet comes up a bit stronger (still kind of pathetic) then subsequent tries will be like "having a bladder stone"!

Thanks again.

Sounds like there's a "loose" piece of dirt in the pipe, not large enough to come through the nozzle.

First press pushes out some water, but then the dirt blocks the hole and very little can come out. Might be worth while removing the pipe from the rear of the nozzle and operating the pump to clear any debris.

Cheers.
