I would to know if a A class 1997 benzin has a timing belt made out of rubber or chain, a freind has just bought this car and is concerned about needing to change the belt if it is in fact a rubber one.
Thank you

Hi Jason,
The A160 has a timing chain, which shouldn't give any problems for many years. Normally you need to start keeping an eye on them after about 200,000 Miles, but that is not to say that it needs replacing then. It all depends how it is driven.

A car that does a lot of short trips without really heating up will wear out a chain quicker than one that does a lot of country miles
