hey i have a 79 280ce that i just put 18 x 8 wheels on, which did fit however i had to roll the front fender lip. one thing i found was that if you want to go 8" wide on this chassis, you pretty much have to go with 18", other wise it will not clear the connecting rod arm that comes off of the spindle, and you have to go w 35 mm offset (stock is 28) to clear the link that comes down from the upper control arm. of course this is all on the front, the rear had clearance +. what happens when you go down to 7.5 " wide? i dont know, you might then be able to go w 16 or 17" rims which might have more of an old school look. and also yr car is 4 door? same basic chassis as my 2 door but there might be some difference. one good thing to do is if you begin to narrow down the rim and offset dimension that you might go for, go to tire factory or some place and have them stick a rim up in your wheel well, which is what i did before i bought my rims on ebay. it tells you a lot about wether or not the size you are considering will fit. ill throw in a picture of my car to show what 18 x 8 looks like on 1 of these cars- Thumbnail Image
