have a 87 300 SDL, and the injector is leaking between the two main bodies. Not the return lines or at the base of the injector. Is the only fix a new injector and does the leak affect the performance of the injector?
How often are injectors replaced and should they all be replaced when some are leaking?
Thanks
Tom

Some Teflon dope suppose to fix that.
Injector tips are recommended to replace every few hundred thousand miles (depends on the engine), but no need to replace whole injector, unless you like to blow your money away.

The external leak that you have is nothing to dop with worn nozzles. It is a leak in the outer body of the injector.

To fix it involves removing and dismantling the injector body, then place some 1200 grade wet and dry sandpaper (extremely fine) on a piece of glass and rework the faces which contact to form the seal, reassemble and test.

You would do well by removing all 6 injectors and take them to a diesel shop or diesel truck shop, and have the nozzles inspected and then the injectors "pop tested" and balanced. Injectors must be balanced to one another to be a matched set.

Only trouble is that if they need new nozzles, the OEM Bosch nozzles are almost impossible to find anymore and what is available are made in India, and are said to be crap! In other words, if you have new nozzles installed into your Bosch injectors, they are likely to be India nozzles, just as in buying rebuilt Bosch injectors, available from most all auto suppliers, it is said that your engine will not run as well as it did with the original Bosch injectors with original Bosch nozzles........According to experts in the field!
