Is there anyone out there that is having or had this issue? I am looking at the 2005 CDi but want to be certain it is worth $58k rather than finding a reasonable milage 1999. Any experience?? thanks

Not sure where you get the 58K figure, but you should be able to get a 2005 E-class CDI with low mileage for $25K or so. You can get a 1999 E300 turbodiesel with 100,000 miles or less for mid-teens, perhaps less from a private party, but certainly no more than 18K. The 99 is more mechanical, and has an expected lifetime that is pretty long. The 05 is more computer-controlled and slightly more efficient, and is of course newer. I wouldn''t get the 05 if it strapped me for cash, but would if I could afford it comfortably. That said, I have a 99.

If somebody is trying to screw you out of $58k for a 3-year old car you should RUN as fast as you can from them. 05-06 CDI models should be in the $25k range, $35k at most for one with low-miles and all the options.
