Lugnut is correct.

The reason the dealers do it is because it takes less time, and as we all know, time is money.

I had a new client come to me one day stating that he had noticed a couple of drips of oil on his driveway "lately" and asked me to check out his car.

When I checked it out I was shocked to see that the oil plug was on it's way out. Damn good thing it was as long as it was or he would have been replacing an engine.

Personally, I would never siphon the oil out of my vehicles. When I do an oil change it gives me the opportunity to check everything else while I'm down there.

That's just me though.

i agree too because heavier remnants of oil settles at the bottom of the pan.

Oh good! We are back on the oil thread. It sounds like my idea of purchasing a siphon kit should be traded for drive up ramps. I was wondering...

I've always felt that gravity helped remove metal shavings, water condensation and other nasties in the oil. I also drive the car long enough to warm the oil to operating temp for all my vehicals. This helps evaporate water and thins the oil enough to drain the maximum amount out of the cylinder heads.

I guess nobody never respond to LUGER's main question which is as follows -

Is there a comment somewhere on the oil change procedure in general. For example, where is the oil filter and how accessible is it. Is there anything peculiar about removing it (i.e. is in encased or is it under the "splash-plate"?).<br>

In addition to the above, do someone needs a special tool for the drain plug / oil filter?
Thanks

The oil filter is extremely easily accessible! Last I looked, it's on the right front of the engine, right on top. There's a plastic covering overtop of it I presume to make the engine bay "prettier". It's definitely not difficult to find. I will look again in the afternoon to make sure that's where it was. But as far as I remember...that's where it's located.

Yes, I am correct. If you are looking at the engine bay, it's on the right front of the motor. Right up top. It kind of stands out on it's own...so it's not difficult to find!

Thanks, my model is E420 [1997]. I look in the area mentioned and can't find anything that may look like oil filter even the black plastic. As a reminder, I have 8 cylinder engine. This may make a difference.
