Oh!!!! Well I don't know about gasoline and diesel mix, I have heard that if you accidentally put gas into a diesel car, a gallon or so to a full tank of diesel wont kill it! But 4 gallons I might want to drain the tank!
Parts for the 87 300D are no problem. There seems to be no shortage that I'm aware of. Remember, many of the parts for these OM6XX engines, from 86 to 95, and I think also 96-99 share many parts. For example, heads are available and plentiful as most all the six cylinder 6XX engines have the same designed head. The head on my 87 is a #14, and there is a rare #15, but the #17 thru #22 were refined and would no longer suffer overheat situations. Precombustion chambers in the #22 are not compatible with older heads only.
Body parts, climate systems, brakes, are pretty much the same for all 124 model cars with only slight variations. These 124 cars came in nearly every conceivable body style including wagons, convertibles, sedans, coups, and the $160,000 "Hammer" from AMG!
There is likely to be parts available for a good many years to come.
