I am going to go check out a 1986 190D that has 240,000 miles on it. What should I be looking at? From the pictures the car looks very clean inside and out but obviously this is a higher mileage car. Is there any parts I should be wary about? The asking price is about $3,000. Does that seem reasonable?

$3k is on the high side for that many miles but if its in good condition and is well maintained its a decent price. The main thing to look for is rust. If you find any visible rust or soft spots by the 4 jack holes or on the main pillars (by the doors) then you should walk away. The engine is a very good one. Check for oil leaks, rough idle, hard cold starting, blue smoke and any loud ticking.

When checking out the car, pull the seats all the way forward, then go to the back seat and lift up the floor mats as well as the carpet right around where the seat bolts to the floor. If you see substantial rust, run as fast as you can or offer this guy $1200. Best of luck to you.
