I have a ''77 300D that seems to loose a lot of engine power when I get to a half tank of fuel.  The car will run fine until it reaches about a half tank and then it becomes sluggish almost like its starving.  Under the hood the rubber fuel lines that run between the injectors/glow plugs seem to have diesel fuel on them also.  Any ideas anyone?  This is my fathers old car that has been handed down to me.  I cant get rid of it and I need to figure out the problem.

Is it hard to start once it state for awhile? You won''t lose power from the return lines JUST $$$
If your hoses are old/ or leaking replace them all. Once your tank gets that low there''s no/little gravity of fuel to the engine and a leak will let the fuel pump suck air. Their are many things it could be. Try a few simple things pull the hose off of inlet to the primary filter hold it below the car and drain into a clean pan. Is it clean? You can blow air back to clean off the screen if their was no flow [ don''t over pressurize 5lb max] if it now flows dirt in the tank. Need to drain it and should replace the screen[ not hard] Any fuel leaks need to be fixed. My 87 300d had bad O-rings on the injector pump lines to the injectors and it did not like to start quickly if the nose was up hill, sat for awhile, or had a low tank level. Cheap fix [$20] but needed a $50 socket. If any of this doesn''t help you should be able to give more info so somebody can help.

This can also be an algae issue in your fuel tank.  This happened to me in my ''83 300D.  Do you have a clear prefilter?  If so, are there dark bits of algae in it?  If so, you may have algae in your fuel tank that is also clogging the screen in the tank.  What I have done is used Biobor to kill it but you need to be ready to replace your fuel filters.  I have also drained the fuel tank, removed it, and had it steam cleaned by a radiator shop.  Then, replaced the screen.
