Someone rear ended the bejeezus out of my 1984 300SD. It was probably totaled, so the guy''s insurance is going to call me and tell me how much they''d like to pay for it. KBB doesn''t go back beyond 1990, and I can''t find any other sources for valuing this car. Does anyone know of any? Anyone have an idea of what the value would be? It was in good mechanical condition, but not so good cosmetic condition.

Look for a professional''s car guide called CPI - Cars of Particular Interest.  Your SD will be listed in there.  The insurance adjuster is sure to have one of these.  By letting HIM know that YOU know of the guide''s existence you stand a better chance of getting a fair shake.  He should have no problem showing the CPI guide to you if he is an honest adjuster.

I have a CPI guide in hand.  What is the mileage and condition?  Condition choices are Excellent, Good, Fair or Poor.  Your description sounds in-between Good & Fair.

Also let me know your Zip Code and I''ll get you a price from CPI.

Sweet. I would say it was in good condition, since mechanically it was between good and excellent, and cosmetically, probably fair or fair-good.

Mileage was approx 250,000, and I''m in 78702.

Thanks a ton.

CPI (Blackbook) and NADA agree, you should be around $6,000-$6,500.  Good luck.
