I took my car to the dealer finally to have them look at the CD player that is not functioning and in true dealer fashion, I was charged $70.00 to be told it is broken and they can''t fix it.  A new one is $450.00.  It is disappointing that these are viewed as disposable.  They did not even remove it from the trunk to look inside.

I get an error message when I access the command CD function that stated that There is no CD in the changer.  There is though.  I have wiggled it and stuck my hand in to feel around and see if anything was jammed to no avail.  My next step is to take it apart and look visually inside.

Anyone with experience with this issue or part?  If it truly is scrap, then I plan on replacing it with the Mikebox i-pod alternative.  anyone with experience with this integrated with command?

Thanks!  Doug

I''ll reply to my own post to update for the good of the forum.  I decided that no harm can come from me messing around with the cd player myself since it was officialy deemed not fixable by the dealer.  I removed it and dissasembled the housing.  then I plugged it back in the car and manually triggered the cd to load with a screwdriver by lightly forcing the gear.  after a few tries it began working again.  I now have the whole thing back installed and is working fine despite a few left over screws I cannot explain.

Anyway, I now have a CD player functioning no thanks to Phil Smart Mercedes in Seattle.  The whole process took me less than an hour and I am no mechanic.
