3 issues identified by mechanic. Which one to tackle f... - 6/6/2008 4:24:18 PM    Scuddog Posts: 89 Joined: 6/4/2007 Status: offline Hello!  I just took my newly acquired 1982 240D with 313K on the clock in for a used car inspection.  The mechanic said that the following are requiring attention: - left ball joint - repack wheel bearings - differential pinion seal Which one of these is the most important and which one is the least?  This is some $$ to spend and my economic stimulus money was spent on booze and women.  Help! Which one to tack... - 6/7/2008 7:49:19 AM    mb124d   Posts: 6 Joined: 5/31/2008 Status: offline MHO: ball joints, they will wear out your tires as the alignment gets worse, and eventually fail collapsing the suspension. The repack you can do yourself. The final drive, usually a small leak, just add it to your list of things to check at each oil change (along with pwr. steering fluid level). The pinion seal can wait unless its pouring out oil. _____________________________ 1980 240D 3.0VNTi 216K Miles. OM617.95, GT2256V VNT turbo, 4-speed manual, Intercooler, 3.46 diff, 15mm rear swaybar, ALDA removed, no EGR and Amsoil by-pass oil filter.
