Hello!  I just took my newly acquired 1982 240D with 313K on the clock in for a used car inspection.  The mechanic said that the following are requiring attention:
- left ball joint
- repack wheel bearings
- differential pinion seal

Which one of these is the most important and which one is the least?  This is some $$ to spend and my economic stimulus money was spent on booze and women.  Help! Ha!!

MHO: ball joints, they will wear out your tires as the alignment gets worse, and eventually fail collapsing the suspension.
The repack you can do yourself.
The final drive, usually a small leak, just add it to your list of things to check at each oil change (along with pwr. steering fluid level).
You spent your stimulus check wisely....

the wheel bearing and ball joint should be done together.

Ball joints and wheel bearings. The pinion seal can wait unless its pouring out oil.

Are there any online resources to learn from on the bearing repacking?  I have a repair manual that came with the car.. similar to a Chilton''s.  Any advice would help here as the repair manual isn''t exactly 100% on target.  Any pitfalls to avoid etc???
