Hi,The battery warning light has just come on with the engine running.The drive belt is fine.Is there a simple test for the alternator,can it be reconditioned or swapped, if so can you advise anywhere in Greater Manchester/ Cheshire?It''s a 2001 SLK 320Thanks.Ps I don''t suppose it''s just a case of replacement bushes!?

Normally brushes. About $20 a set, replace under vehicle.

Put a voltmeter across batt, start and it should go to about 13.8 volts +

Thanks Bazzle, it was the voltage regulator, brushes were fine. replaced for £40.Alternator needs to be removed to fit.
