Hi all. Can't get the stupid hood to close all the way on this one. It goes past the safety latches but won't catch and hold so as to be flush with the fenders.

Here's what I've tried:
*Adjusted the threaded cable adjuster in the engine compartment (driver side 10" behind headlight). I've moved this thing back and forth in lots of possible combinations and no change - except for the hand release by the driver door becoming tighter/looser.

* Adjusted up/down and finally removed the two hood bumpers on the rail above the headlights. No change.

*Removed from the hood one of the the u shaped things that goes into the latch/housing. I pushed the thing in manually watched it go inside the latch. Using all possible variations of angles and force, could not get the thing to latch or even act as though it was thinking about latching. The secondary safety latch works, but not the primary one that is activated by the car's interior release handle.

Can't find this answer in other threads. Thanks for your help and have a great long weekend .

Make sure there is nothing in the spring pits, anything on top of the engine that might be sticking up too high or tools left in the engine compartment.

Of course that makes sense, but I've thoroughly checked all those things. And again, I removed a hood catch (u-shaped things) and pushed it into both spring pits manually. They won't latch.

I don't know in that case. It looks like you've covered most everything you can do.

Get a piece of steel bar about the same size as the bar on the underside of the hood and see if you can get the latch to lock on to it. That will let you see what its doing or not doing.
