BVNitta -> 300TDT Tailgate problem (5/10/2008 3:25:18 PM)

Hey guys,
I recently got hold of an '85 300TDT. Worked great until a couple of days back, I can't seem to unlock the tailgate - and get this:
- the square ignition key doens't work on it
- that's the only key I have
- tailgate has no interior handle
- tailgate has no locking 'stalk'
It's not the vacuum.. all other locks actuate when I unlock the master.. I do hear an odd cranking noise from the tailgate. Before I rip the tailgate panels off, is there something else I should try ? Thanks in advance,
