Default Error Code P0455

I have a 1998 C230.
My emissions report shows the error code P0455.
I have looked up the explanation and found the following explanation.
EVAP Emission Contr.Sys.(Gross Leak) Leak Detected

Can anyone offer any help of where I should be looking to address this?
Any other tips or suggestions are appreciated also.

Thank You

the regenaration valve must be open all the time.

listen if there is a hissing sound from it.

normal operation if there is regular click click sound.

feel if the vacuum is regulated.

follow and check if the line was disconnected.

the function of this is to return the fuel vapor of the tank to the intake manifold instead of disposing on the atmosphere.

PO455 CODE IS IT MINOR OR MAJOR LEAK?
MAJOR LEAK ... GAS CAP LOOSE OR LINE ARE LEAKING
MINOR LEAK... SHOT OFF VALVE IN THE CHARCOAL CANISTER IS LEAKING
OR PURGE VALVE IS FAULTY

i don't think so.

check component B4/3 ( fuel tank pressure sensor).
check the actual value. fuel tank pressure difference: 12.35 hPa. specified value should be -33...-35 hPa. if yes or no, tell me for the next step.

test voltage supply of fuel tank pressure sensor. voltage: 4.7....5.3 volt. if yes or no, tell me for the next step.

check component Y58/1 (purge control valve).
since you said you have tested it, heres what the test should be:
*actuation of component Y58/1
**test current consumption of component Y58/1
***perform mechanical inspection of component Y58/1

the detailed test programs are available if you want.

i know what you mean, it will give the FAULT CODE P0451, P0452, P0453.

did you know that P0455 was modified to "major leak in purge system, hose in system not connected or cap open"?

if we are doing the diagnosis, we should not leave anything unattended. the computer can only tell you the malfunction that it sense through pre-programmed datas... but it doesn't know the real problem.
the rest all depends on you.

the computer cannot use us to find the problem, but we use the computer to find the problem.
you are in full control, and you will use all six senses you got in order to know something.

doing diagnosis is not a job at all, but a plaything where you can have fun... similar to a kid discovering new things that amazes them. this is for as long as you now what you are doing.

cheers.
